FinCEN Director William J. Fox announced today the appointment of William D. Langford as Senior Policy Advisor. Mr. Langford will serve as a principal advisor to the Director with respect to the strategic development and administration of regulations involving the Bank Secrecy Act. “Mr. Langford will bring invaluable expertise to FinCEN’s domestic and international efforts aimed at the disruption of terrorist financing and money laundering,” said William J. Fox, Director of FinCEN. “His long-standing and respected work with our partners in the financial, regulatory and law enforcement communities will be a tremendous asset to FinCEN and its mission.” Mr. Langford is currently Senior Advisor to the General Counsel of the Department of Treasury. Since September 11, his focus has been largely on the implementation of the anti-terrorism and anti-money laundering provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act, including the drafting of the regulations implementing these provisions. Previously, Mr. Langford served as Senior Counsel for Financial Crimes in the Office of the Assistant General Counsel for Enforcement of the Department of the Treasury. Mr. Langford will join FinCEN in early January 2004.
